Effective date: 3 October 2026
Totalo is a receipt scanner and expense tracker. This policy explains what happens to data when you use it.
Your receipts — the photos, the merchant names, dates, amounts, categories and notes — are stored only on your iPhone, in the app’s own storage. They are never uploaded, never synced, and never sent to us. There is no account, no login, and no server belonging to Totalo.
Reading a receipt (recognizing the text in the photo) happens entirely on your iPhone with Apple’s Vision framework. On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, Totalo may also use Apple’s on-device language model to tidy up what it read; this too runs on the device and can be switched off in Settings.
Receipts are included in your iPhone backups (iCloud or computer), so a restore brings them back. Deleting the app deletes all of it. Delete all data in Settings removes every receipt and photo without deleting the app.
Totalo also stores small preferences on your device: your currency, whether categories are remembered per merchant, the language you picked, how many receipts you have saved (used to decide when to ask for an App Store review), how many scans you made this month (the free tier’s limit), and whether you have bought Totalo Pro.
The free version of Totalo shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob is operated by Google, and when it serves an ad it may collect:
This data is collected by Google, not by us — we never receive it. Google’s handling of it is described in the Google Privacy Policy and in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Your receipts and their contents are never shared with AdMob or anyone else.
When you first open Totalo, before any ad is requested, it asks for permission to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. This is the standard iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt.
You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your device.
Buying Totalo Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. When it is active, no ads are requested and AdMob collects nothing. The purchase is handled by Apple; we never see your payment details. Your entitlement is checked with Apple’s StoreKit and is tied to your Apple Account, so you can restore it on your other devices.
Totalo asks for camera access to photograph receipts. Photos taken in the app and photos you pick from your library are copied into the app’s own storage, on the device. Totalo never accesses your photo library beyond the picture you choose, and never writes to it.
Totalo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and the updated policy is published at the same address.
